If you remember SimCity 2000 fondly, as I do, you may also remember the hilarious fake news that would accompany the headline whenever something of importance to the simulation happened. Someone with a deadpan sense of humor had injected plaintive touches of the human condition phrased with a reporter’s studied impartiality. That someone is evidently Sean Collins Walsh and writes for the Times now, or so it seems from this little gem:
Nearly 4,000 Post Offices Might Close
….The potential closings involve offices in every state except Delaware, home to Senator Thomas R. Carper, who has put forth one of five bills introduced in Congress that would overhaul the Postal Service….
A Carper spokeswoman said Tuesday that the senator did not communicate with the Postal Service about potential closings and that Delaware’s absence on the list was a “fluke.”
Rarely is the uniquely human quality of sarcasm so potently yet subtly exhibited.
